The short version
Copy to Target Folder does not collect, transmit, or share any information. The developer, Jerry Travis Smith, collects nothing from you or your system. The only network traffic Copy to Target Folder can produce is if the target folder to copy things to is a network share on your LAN, in which case that traffice is confined to YOUR NETWORK only.
What the app stores on your device
The app keeps exactly two pieces of data, both local, both listed here in full.
1. Your chosen target folder
When you click Choose target folder, the path you pick is written to the Windows registry:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\CopyToTarget
TargetFolder (the folder path you selected)This is stored so the app remembers your choice between uses. It is readable only by your Windows user account. It is never transmitted anywhere.
2. A temporary list of selected items
When you right-click a selection and choose Copy items to target folder, the app writes the paths of the selected files and folders to a temporary file:
%TEMP%\CopyToTarget-<random>.txtThis exists only to hand the selection from the Explorer context menu to the copying process. The file is deleted as soon as it has been read — typically within a fraction of a second. It is never transmitted anywhere.
Files you copy
To copy your files, the app necessarily reads their names and contents and writes copies into the folder you chose. This happens entirely on your computer, using standard Windows file operations. The app does not inspect, index, catalog, upload, or retain anything about the files beyond performing the copy you asked for.
What the app does not do
- No internet connections. No servers, no APIs, no update checks.
- No telemetry, analytics, crash reporting, or usage measurement.
- No advertising and no advertising identifiers.
- No accounts, sign-in, or user profiles.
- No third-party SDKs or libraries that collect data.
- No selling or sharing of information, because none is collected.
Information Microsoft collects
The app is distributed through the Microsoft Store. Microsoft collects its own data about downloads, installations, and app health, which is governed by the Microsoft Privacy Statement and not by this policy.
As the publisher, I can see aggregate, non-identifying statistics in Partner Center — things like how many installations occurred and in which markets. I cannot see who you are, and I receive no personal information about you.
If Windows sends an error report after a crash, that is a Windows feature governed by Microsoft’s privacy statement. I receive only anonymized crash diagnostics through Partner Center.
Children
The app is a general-purpose file utility. It is not directed at children under 13, and it collects no information from anyone, children included.
Your choices
Because nothing is collected, there is no personal data to access, correct, export, or delete, and no data-subject requests to make.
To remove the settings the app stores locally, uninstall it from Settings > Apps > Installed apps, then, if you want to be thorough, delete the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\CopyToTarget registry key using regedit.
Changes to this policy
If the app ever changes in a way that affects this policy, the policy will be updated before that version is published, and the effective date above will change. Any future version that connects to the internet for any reason will say so here, plainly, before it ships.
